I am a bridesmaid. She understands my financial position and says she will be respectful of that since a few of us are struggling (one has a 1 year old, one saving for a wedding, one is expecting...). In the same email she suggested that like she did for a friends wedding we all start putting away $100 a month (each that is) to put towards the shower...
I am going to do my best to give her everything she expects/wants but as I was upfront with her about the financial stuff, I won't feel bad when it goes over the line.
Oh a few of you mentioned that a grand seems outrageous. It does to me too but that is what everyone has told me they spent recently. I will be honest, weddings are HUGE (as in cost) around here. My wedding cost me a lot of money, it's actually almost shameful. I could have bought a lower end luxury car cash or a year at Princeton for what I spent...
I will be sure to update any craziness related to the wedding =)
I love you guys, you give the best advice!

Oh, I know weddings are expensive. But it still boggles my mind. Why?? Why are they so expensive?? My wedding...get ready for this...only cost us about $5,000. Yes, thats it. And it was gorgeous. And if I could go back and do it again, I wouldnt change a thing.
And heres another tip, dont know if you want it or not. But you can take it or leave it.
We(my husband and I) wanted to do a jack and jill instead of the usual bridal or stag. So we did a pig roast. We did it in July and it was awesome. We had all our bridal party sell tickets to the pig roast( apparently, everyone loves a good pig)and we had each of them put together a "gift basket" that we had picked themes for. And then sold raffle tickets for the baskets at the jack and jill. A string of tickets the length of the brides arm was $20. Everyone had a blast, and we made a good chunk of money. I think we walked away with almost $2,500.
Good for you for being upfront! I'm glad you still get to be a bride's maid. I think you'll have a blast! I can't wait to read all about it ;o)
i think that is good. you will do fine. i'm glad that she seems to be *somewhat* realistic :)
...and i'm still not sure about that $1000 thing! for the love of all! it's one day!!!!
